Sgt Stressing of APD called me that Pops had been identified and the family had been notified. Pops name is Gerald Lee Fuller. I called the County Medical Examiner office and they gave me a funeral home in Kansas where he will be sent after being cremated here. I call the funeral home and was told that he has several cousins that were trying to make arrangements to bury him. The lady said that no one knew that he had been living on the streets. It has been about 8 years since anyone has heard from him. I sent the email to her that I had sent to the newspaper. I told her to pass it on to the family in hope that it may bring some comfort and insight to Pops last years. Below is the email I received from one of the cousins.
Miss Vicki,
Let me induce myself to you. My name is Glenda. I am a cousin to the man you called " POPS". I live here in Augusta, Kansas and I am the one who is making the final arrangements for Gerald Lee Fuller aka as Pops. Sandy the lady from the funeral home here in town printed off your e mail and I read it and was very touched by your words and how you truly loved Gerald. He was a loving person and one who seemed to be lost and not sure which way to turn. From reading your e mail I fell you did show him the way to our Lord. I can't say he truly found his way to Christ and accepted the way you and I know, but I am sure that Christ came to him and that he will be waiting for us in eternity.
I am going to make a copy of the e mail and send it to his brother Robert. Robert has had problems of his own and is coming to a 10 year end of time in jail. Robert called me on the 15 of July and told me that Jerry had passed away. At that time no one knew what truly had happen. Bob had ask me if I would make the arrangements. I told him I would do that for him and would keep him informed as the days went by. I would like to make this copy and send to Bob and let him know that someone cared and show how others share a part of their life. If it is ok with you that I do this I would be honored.
I know neither boy had gone to church at all, but I know down deep inside Christ was there. Their mother who was my fathers sister was raised in a christen home and that our Grandmother had taught her kids that Christ was in all of us and that we all were love and would once again meet in heaven. Please, let your Pastor know that his statement that Jerry was a veteran and a hero was true. Jerry was all that and more.
Wish you could be here in Kansas when we lay Jerry to rest in the family section of our cemetery. We are having him cremated and placed by his mother and father. I would love for the rest of the cousins to hear what someone has to say and how sweet he truly was. You open my eyes and showed me a different side of Jerry that no one else has seen. Thank you for that.
I know this has been very long, but I had to share my thoughts with you and say how nice it was to see that someone cared. I am going to share one thing with you. Jerry " POPS" was a very educated person. He had been to college and had a degree in education. Not only that but I know you knew he had been in the service. He was in the Army and got out and went to school and got his degree and went back into the Air Force. I am not sure how many years he was in, but I know he serviced with pride and honor. Their father was a 31 year Army man. I never looked down on Jerry nor his brother. They were both not just cousins but I accepted them as two other brothers. I think that is why his death has been a little hard on me, but I have seen the good in him and accept his life and praise him for the good. Hope you understand what I mean here.
Vicki please accept my thanks for your e mail and all the nice wonderful words you shared and the love you had for him. If you can send me your address so I can send you a booklet on his funeral I would like that. Please let everyone know how grateful the family is for knowing others cared and shared their life with him. I am sure he is setting in heaven looking down and smiling.
Gerald Lee Fuller
